Visiting Canfield defeats Liberty
The Canfield varsity softball team defeated Liberty, 5-0 Tuesday.
The Leopards only had one hit for the day, while the Cardinals had six. For Canfield, Carlee Hart (2-1) had a no-hitter until the seventh inning when Liberty’s Dutton singled. Hart struck out 10 batters.
Senior Kasey McMurray was the big hitter for Canfield going 3 for 4 with a triple and 4 RBI.
Cara Cupler had a double and Sarah Vrabel singled with an RBI.
Canfield improved to 2-2.
Canfield baseball team wins in Myrtle Beach
Justin Vrable’s home run in the sixth inning sparked the Canfield baseball team to a 17-8 victory over Bamberg (S.C.) Monday as part of the Mingo Bay Classic.
The game was played in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Vrable’s homer in the sixth inning began a 13-run final two innings for the Cards.
Vrable had four hits, including the home run, and 3 RBIs. Teammates Bret Cooper and Nick Reinthaler had two and three hits, respectively, and combined for six RBIs.
Canfield tennis team nets win
The Canfield High School boys tennis team defeated Howland 3-2 Mar. 31.
In singles matches, Tony El-Hayek played three sets to win the match 6-4, 1-6 and 6-1 over Howland’s Faisal Mangalji, Ryan Sankovic lost his match in two sets, 6-1 and 6-4 against competitor Matt Madgar. Mark Dalvin defeated Robert Ames 7-5 and 6-3.
Winning a doubles match for Canfield was the team of Mark Pagano and Tom Yankush.
Mill Creek golf league seeking new members
Mill Creek Golf Course will offer registration for its senior men’s golf league Apr.14 from 9 a.m. to noon in the golf course snack bar. To be eligible, you must be 55 or older by July 15.
Dues for the season are $45 and must be paid at sign-up. Greens fess are paid each play day. Call Tony Papa at 330-758-0114.
