Brown: Expand tax-credit program

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown called for an expansion of the Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credit this week. The tax credit uses $2.3 billion in federal Recovery Act funds to give a 30 percent credit to domestic companies that create manufacturing jobs in clean-energy industries. Brown called for Congress to expand the program by $5 billion.

Hummer discounts

General Motors is discontinuing the Hummer brand and offering incentives to customers interested in buying the remaining 2,200 Hummers. GM is offering a $6,000 rebate on the 2009 Hummer H2 and H3 models, a $5,000 rebate on the 2009 Hummer H3T and $4,000 on the limited 2010 H3Ts.

Beware of scams

The Ohio Department of Insurance has warned consumers that the passage of health-care reform could result in an increase in health-insurance scams. Signs of an insurance scam include limited-time offers and policies with limited benefits. Ohio residents who think they have been a victim of fraud are urged to call the department’s fraud and enforcement division at (800) 686-1527.
