Club looking for new members and sponsors
The Boardman Gridiron Club, “The Team Behind The Team,” will host its next meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Boardman High School cafeteria.
Head Coach D.J. Ogilvie will speak at the meeting. The club supports the cheerleaders and players of BHS.
Membership is open to all parents, friends and supporters of BHS.
Graduates swim well at Westminster
Two former Boardman High School swimmers, Mike Barringer and Mark Brooks competed in the President’s Athletic Conference championships in Grove City, Pa., for Westminster College. They were named conference champions, earning them NCAA “B” cut qualifying times.
Barringer won the 100 butterfly and Brooks won the 100 backstroke. The two swimmers were part of the first-place 200 freestyle relay, third-place 800 freestyle relay and second-place 400 freestyle relay teams.
Barringer also placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle. Brooks finished fifth in the 200 backstroke and seventh in the 200 freestyle. The duo have been named first team all-conference.
Mill Creek golf league is looking for members
Mill Creek Golf Course will offer registration for its senior men’s golf league Apr.14 from 9 a.m. to noon in the golf course snack bar. To be eligible, you must be 55 or older by July 15 or this year.
The season lasts for 18 weeks starting May 12. Teams of four golfers will be assigned and nine holes of golf are played each Wednesday and Friday morning, starting at 8 a.m.
During the season, there will be two field days with prizes awarded for special events. The field days will be held July 12 and Sept. 13.
Dues for the season are $45 and must be paid at sign-up. Greens fess are paid each play day. Senior rates and golf carts are available. For information, call Tony Papa at 330-758-0114 or Bruce Beranek at 330-758-1304.
Play is rotated between the North and South courses at Mill Creek Golf Course. Golfers who cannot play twice a week are welcomed as alternates.
YSU offers one-day baseball camp Apr. 11
Youngstown State University will host a one-day fielding and base running camp Apr. 11 for players in grades one through 12.
Youngstown State assistant coach Craig Antush will direct the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy. The session will last for three hours.
