Boardman’s Performing Arts Center echoed with the sounds of trumpets, saxophones and trombones as it set the mood for a jazzed-up performance from high school students.

March 30 marked the 10th annual Boardman High School Jazz Fest featuring Jazz Ensembles I, II, and III. The ensembles collectively performed 16 musical selections featuring classic and modern tunes under the direction of Thomas Ruggieri.

Cleveland Jazz Orchestra’s Musical Director Jack Schantz served as a special musical guest for the evening. He was featured in selections from Jazz Ensembles I and II.

Jazz Ensemble III was comprised of students that took their after school time to practice twice a week for the performance. Ensembles II and III practice every day during normal school hours.

Several students had the luxury of playing their main instrument of choice in Ensemble I or II and playing a secondary or third instrument in Ensemble III.
