A taste of A-town

Neighbors | Submitted.Guests at the Taste of Austintown at the Regency House participated in a Chinese auction. The Mar. 20 event helped raise money for college scholarships for Fitch graduates.
A sellout crowd helped raise $10,000 while they enjoyed the signature dishes from 19 local restaurants during the Austintown Junior Women’s League third annual “Taste of Austintown” event at the Regency House Mar. 20.
Theresa Lyden chaired and Tiffany Lyden co-chaired the event that raised money for college scholarships for Fitch High School graduates.
The evening included music, dancing, a cash bar and nearly 100 raffle and auction items donated by local merchants and individuals. Sponsorship plaques were presented to all the restaurants, and judges. Glenn Johnson, Kathy Mock and Mike Sciortino gave special certificates and plaques to winners in specific categories.
The winning restaurants included best appetizer, Yolo Restaurant and Grille; best casual entr e, Salsitas Mexican Restaurant; best formal entr e, Fifth Season Restaurant; best dessert dish, Walmart; best ethnic dish, O’Donald’s Restaurant and Grille; and best tailgate dish, Barry Dyngles Restaurant.
The Judges’ “Best of the Best” award, given to the overall outstanding dish, went to the Fifth Season Restaurant. People’s Choice awards went to Salsitas Mexican Restaurant for Best Presentation and Service and to Barry Dyngles Restaurant for Best Taste.
Other vendors who participated included Trax Restaurant, the Upstairs Restaurant and Lounge, The Manor, Lou Chine, Sunrise Inn on Mahoning Avenue, Jeremiah Bullfrogs, Coldstone Creamery, Austintown School Bond Issue Campaign, Marino’s Italian Cafe and Catering, Mojo’s Pub and Grill, Denny’s and Charley’s Restaurant.
