Pa. care home attendant, patient fall from roof
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — An attendant at an eastern Pennsylvania behavioral health facility is hospitalized after plunging off the roof of the building while trying to prevent a patient from jumping.
The family of 48-year-old Robert E. Smith Jr. says he suffered two broken arms and a head injury Monday in the fall from the third-story roof of Mount Trexler Manor in Allentown.
Upper Saucon Township police say the Allentown School Board member was trying to talk down a 20-year-old female patient who was threatening to jump when they both fell. The patient suffered only minor injuries.
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
