Township police transported a 20-year-old Air Force member who had been reported missing to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
The Air Force had reported the man, Michael A. Maynard, whose address is listed on a police report as Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina, missing.
Tuesday afternoon, police were called to Gabriel Bros., U.S. Route 224, where Maynard had been seen. He was despondent and told police he had a straight razor in his pocket. He was taken to the hospital.
Police called an Air Force sergeant, who said there was a pending confinement Absent Without Leave order on Maynard and that military police were on the way to the hospital to pick him up.
Steps required for moving mailbox
poland
Township trustees are asking residents who live on Youngstown-Poland Road and want their mailbox moved to avoid crossing the street to follow a series of steps by April 27.
Residents must call the Poland post office and inform them of the intention to move the mailbox.
The post office requires at least three days’ notice. Call the township at (330) 757-0733 and leave your name, address and telephone number.
Mark the spot on your property, such as with a painted stake or ribbon, designating where you want the new mailbox to be placed.
The cost of replacement is covered through private donations and is not being paid with township funds.
Hearing postponed
Canfield
A plea-agreement hearing scheduled for Brian and Betsy Spin was reset to April 21. The Canfield couple, charged Oct. 22 with animal cruelty and child endangering, was scheduled to appear Wednesday in Mahoning County Area Court in Canfield.
Court personnel said the hearing was moved to April 21 because Prosecutor Nick Modarelli and the Spins’ attorney, Ross Smith, “decided they needed another couple of weeks.”
Brian Spin, 38, and Betsy Spin, 32, were charged after they were found living in poor conditions inside the home at 535 Brookpark Drive.
The Mahoning County Dog Warden removed at least a dozen emaciated animals — 10 dogs and two cats — from the home. None of the animals survived. The couple’s two children, age 7 and 2, also were removed from the home and are living with Brian Spin’s parents.
