Mill Creek MetroParks is soliciting public comment for the upcoming 2010 Drive Improvements project.
The area to be addressed includes West Golf Drive from U.S. Route 224 (Boardman-Canfield Road) to the Mill Creek Golf Course Field House.
Public comment will be received by the park system through April 23. Submit comments to: Mill Creek MetroParks, Re: 2010 Drive Improvements, P.O. Box 596, Canfield, OH 44406.

The city’s police department has four new part-time officers. They are William D. Bowers, 27, of Poland; John C. Porter Jr., 56, of Hubbard, who also works part time for Goshen Township police; Samuel J. Protopapa, 28, of Hubbard, a full-time officer with Cleveland Clinic Police; and Kendra H. Yurgionas, 24, of Johnston a dispatcher with Cleveland Clinic Police.
Environmental issues

Youngstown State University professor Dr. Lauren Schroeder will present Environmental Issues of the 21st Century at a meeting of the Youngstown Area Chapter of United Nations Association at 7 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Wick Avenue.
The program is free. Schroeder, YSU’s professor emeritus of evolution and ecology, will review past environmental issues and discuss the loss of biodiversity, global climate change, resource depletion, sustainability and population density.
Health event set

Warriors Inc. will have a Jazz Prevention Health Set from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Covelli Centre.
The event includes health-care information, various forms of dance, refreshments and prizes. Jazz music will be performed by The Unit. Admission is free.

The Trumbull County Bar Association has recommended Atty. Thomas R. Wright of Brookfield in the race for the 11th District Court of Appeals against Neil Wilson of Leroy, Ohio.
The winner will gain a six-year term running Feb. 9, 2011, through Feb. 9, 2017.
The association did not recommend anyone in the Republican primary for the position because no candidate received more than 662‚Ñ3 percent of the votes cast.
Republicans running for the position are incumbent Colleen Mary O’Toole of Concord, Ohio; and Eugene Lucci of Concord, Ohio.

Police seek suspect
YOUNGSTOWN
Police are looking for the man who raped a 19-year-old city woman on the South Side.
The woman told police she was walking on LaClede Avenue between Oakhill Avenue and Market Street 12:30 a.m. Monday when a man in a tan pickup truck pulled up to her, forced her inside in the vehicle and drove off. The woman said the man drove to a vacant lot near Williamson Avenue, sexually assaulted her and then told her to get out of the truck.
The woman ran to a home in the 500 block of Williamson Avenue for help. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.
Firearm charges

A city fireman is due to appear in court May 11 on charges of discharging a firearm in the city limits.
Mike Sadler was ticketed Monday for shooting a firearm outside his Bradley Lane home. He is free on his own recognizance.
Shootings probed
YOUNGSTOWN
Police are investigating the shootings of two people on one South Side street, including that of a 15-year-old high school student.
According to police, a 15-year-old East Boston Avenue girl said she was standing in her driveway at 7:23 p.m. Monday when she heard gunshots and felt something hit her side. She told police she saw a black truck drive by at the time of the shooting.
A short time later, police were called to the home of a 27-year-old Cedar Lane man who was shot and bleeding from the leg. The man told police he was at a party on East Boston Avenue with his brother at about 7 p.m. when someone began shooting.
The man said he realized he had been shot, and his brother dropped him off on Cedar Lane. The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.
