Ohioans will pay their final respects to Ohio Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer later this week, with a public visitation at the Ohio Judicial Center and funeral at the Columbus-area church he attended.

Moyers’ family will greet visitors on Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Supreme Court building in Columbus. He will lie in repose in the courtroom where he presided.

On Saturday at 11 a.m., a public funeral is scheduled at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., in Columbus, with the Rev. Richard Wing officiating.

A private burial will follow. A memorial tribute is being planned for May 1.

Moyer died unexpectedly late last week after serving as chief justice for nearly three decades. Gov. Ted Strickland has called for the Ohio Judicial Center to be named in Moyer’s memory.
