Davis now faces aggravated murder charge in baby's death

AUSTINTOWN — Shawn Edward Davis now faces an aggravated murder charge following the death of his girlfriend’s 1-year-old daughter.

The 25-year-old township man was served the new charge during his morning arraignment today in Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown. He was previously charged with felonious assault after Austintown police and fire personnel and Lane Ambulance were called to 854 Compass West Drive Monday.

Detective Sgt. Kathy Dina said the girl was unresponsive when safety personnel arrived. The child was first taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. St. Elizabeth doctors noticed extensive bruising on the left side of the girl’s face and determined that she had a skull fracture, police said.

She died Tuesday night at Akron Children's Hospital in Akron from her injuries, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Davis is now being held without bond.
