3 plead innocent in bullying case

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.

Three Massachusetts teenagers pleaded innocent through their lawyers Tuesday in the bullying of a 15-year-old girl who committed suicide after what prosecutors call months of threats and harassment.

The teens were not required to appear at the hearing in Hampshire Superior Court.

Sean Mulveyhill and Kayla Narey, both 17 and from South Hadley, and 18-year-old Austin Renaud, of Springfield, will remain free on personal recognizance on the condition that they stay away from the family of Phoebe Prince, the girl who died.

7.7 quake strikes off Indonesian island

JAKARTA, Indonesia

A 7.7 earthquake shook Indonesia’s northwest island of Sumatra early today, prompting a brief tsunami warning and sending residents rushing for higher ground. There were no immediate reports of widespread damage.

The quake was centered 125 miles northwest of Sibolga in Sumatra at a depth of 28.6 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It had earlier said the quake measured 7.8.

The Indonesia Meteorology and Geophysics Agency and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu issued tsunami warnings after the quake but lifted them two hours later.

Oldest American dies at age 114

IOWA CITY, Iowa

An Iowa woman who became the oldest living American less than a month ago has died.

Neva Morris of Ames, Iowa, was 114 years, 245 days old.

Morris became the oldest living American on March 8. The Gerontology Research Group of Los Angeles says Eunice Sanborn of Jacksonville, Texas, is now the oldest living American at 113 years, 260 days old.
