Sader pitches Liberty past Newton Falls


LIBERTY

Liberty High’s Nate Sader pitched a complete game, had seven strikeouts and allowed only three hits to earn his first win of the season, as the Leopards defeated Newton Falls, 8-2, in a high school baseball game Monday.

Sader also had a double, scored a run and had two RBIs.

Teammates Mark Seals and Joe Tamarkin each had two hits and an RBI. Seals scored two runs.

Martinsburg (W Va.) 6, Fitch 3

Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Anthony Savko went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Fitch.

Tony Koch added two singles.

Derek Shrout hit a home run for Martinsburg.

Western Reserve 9, Chaney 5

BERLIN CENTER

Eric Kennehan went 2 for 4 and John Rosati had a triple and three RBIs for Western Reserve.

Also for the Blue Devils, Kennehan and Nick Timko had an RBI apiece, while Timko and Thomas Benyo doubled.

For Chaney, Tyler Lillo went 3 for 4 and scored twice and Rich Mauro had two hits including a double.

Niles 15, Youngstown Christian 1

NILES

The Red Dragons had 13 hits and a nine-run second inning.

Joe Livi had three hits in three at-bats, scoring two runs and driving in two more.

Brendan Bone had the only hit for Youngstown Christian. The Eagles were plagued by nine errors.

Mooney 11, Marlington 10

STRUTHERS

Pat Markovich had two doubles, while Ryan Gallagher and Taylor Callahan also doubled for Mooney, which scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Also for the Cards (3-1), Boo Vazquez went 3 for 3, Gallagher went 3 for 4 and Dante Lewis had two hits and three RBIs.

Justin Summers had three hits, while Evan Chambers and Shane Haidet had two hits for Marlington (4-2).

Summers and Chambers accounted for two RBIs apiece.

Hubbard 2, Girard 0

HUBBARD

Senior Matt Shelton had a four-hitter which included six strikeouts and no walks for the Eagles (4-1) at Harding Park.

In the second inning, senior Tim Schiraldi doubled and senior Dan Helsel’s single brought Schiraldi across for Hubbard’s first run.

In the fifth, senior Tommy Jackson’s sacrifice fly scored Zach Palumbo, also a senior.

Joe Augustine and Dante Delbene had their team’s only hits — two apiece — for the Indians (5-1).

Canfield 17, Bamberg (SC) 8

Myrtle Beach, S.C.

A three-run home run by Canfield’s Justin Vrable in the sixth inning began a 13-run final two innings in the Mingo Bay Classic.

Vrable had four hits, including the home run, and 3 RBIs.

Teammates Bret Cooper and Nick Reinthaler had two and three hits, respectively, and combined for six RBIs.
