Play to benefit Rescue Mission
The 34west Theater Company based in New York City will present the romantic-comedy “My Name is Ruth” on Friday at The Embassy, 5030 Youngstown-Poland Road, Struthers. Limited seating is still available; tickets are for $50. Proceeds benefit the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. For tickets, call Linda Sherrard at (330) 744-5485 during regular business hours.
“My Name is Ruth” is a look at a young woman’s search for love and redemption. Through laughter and reflection, the story shows how faith can triumph over hardship. The play is set in the early 1950s.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with a buffet beginning at 6:30. Dessert will be courtesy of Springfield Grill to be enjoyed during the performance.
Syfy in their future
Michael Rosenbaum, who was so good as Lex Luthor in “Smallville,” has written a script for a half-hour comedy that has been snatched up by the Syfy Channel. The show, still untitled, will star Rosenbaum and Jonathan Silverman (”Weekend at Bernie’s”) as two former actors on a science-fiction show who have to get their lives straightened out after their sci-fi gig is over. No airdate yet.
Hanks and Scolari together again
TV Land has announced that Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks and Emmy Award-nominee Peter Scolari are among the newest honorees at the eighth annual TV Land Awards. The network will salute the ground-breaking sitcom “Bosom Buddies” with the Anniversary Award at this year’s show, which will be hosted by Tim Allen. The show will air at 9 p.m. April 25 on TV Land.
