Pa. state trooper shoots pitbull

TEMPLETON, Pa. (AP) — State police say a trooper had to shoot a neighbor’s dog while investigating a death in western Pennsylvania.

Police say the unidentified trooper shot the pit bull on Sunday because he felt threatened by the animal while canvassing the neighborhood where a man died last week in Templeton, about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Officials say the trooper was standing just off Tonya Erb’s property when her pit bull, Kain, charged at him. They say the trooper thought he was in danger and fired, killing the animal.

Erb says the dog was wearing a shock collar and never left the yard. She says state police called her to tell her what happened.

Police say Erb may be entitled to reimbursement for the cost of the dog.
