Proposal would restructure Pa. student-loan agency
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Two state lawmakers are touting a plan to reduce the Legislature’s influence over the state agency that handles student loans.
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency’s board chairman and vice chairman said today they want to reduce the number of state legislators on the board from 16 to 12.
The chairman, Republican state Rep. Bill Adolph of Delaware County, says the complexity of the student-loan industry makes it important to get more people on the board with special knowledge about financial transactions and information technology.
Adolph is sponsoring the proposed reforms along with board vice chairman Sean Logan, a Democratic state senator from Allegheny County.
