Detours and traffic changes begin Monday on a resurfacing and bridge redecking project on state Routes 11 and 82.

The work had been scheduled to start Thursday, but an accident March 30 postponed it, said Kristen Erickson, a spokeswoman for Ohio Department of Transportation District 4, which includes Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Route 82 westbound at the Route 11 interchange is reduced to one lane because of the accident in which a truck struck the Route 11 northbound bridge over Route 82.

“That wasn’t part of the original project, but we tacked it on as part of the work,” Erickson said.

Traffic on Route 11 southbound at the Route 82 interchange will be reduced to one 11-foot lane for bridge work until November. Standard lane width is between 12 feet and 13 feet.

The exit ramp from Route 11 southbound to Route 82 eastbound will be closed until November, with Route 11 southbound to Tibbetts Wick Road to Route 11 northbound the detour.

The exit ramp from Route 82 westbound to Route 11 southbound also will be closed until November. That detour will be Route 82 westbound to Route 46 to Route 82.

The project also includes work on the four bridges at the Route 11-state Route 82 interchange. The bridges will be redecked.

Vienna Trustee Richard Dascenzo Jr. said the project hasn’t caused problems.

“No citizen complaints have been voiced about it as of yet,” he said.

The work is the beginning of a $14.1 million project to resurface Route 11 from just south of Niles Vienna Road to King Graves Road as well as bridge work to various structures throughout the project. The entire project is scheduled to be complete in September 2011.

Marucci & Gaffney Excavating of Youngstown is the contractor.
