Theology degree
Richard Mattiussi of Austintown has earned his doctoral degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Indiana. His dissertation explored the need for reconciliation between the Catholic and Orthodox churches.
Mattiussi received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religious studies from Youngstown State University and earned his master’s degree in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He completed his doctoral-level course work at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and submitted it to the theological foundation.
Mattiussi has taught theology as an adjunct professor at Walsh University, Franciscan University, Duquesne University and Ursuline College. Before teaching high school, he was employed for 10 years as director of religious education for several parishes in the Diocese of Youngstown. He then taught at Ursuline High School and now teaches at Cardinal Mooney High School.
He is a member and co-founder of the Society of St. John Chrysostom, Youngstown-Warren Chapter, which is a local Catholic-Orthodox Ecumenical Dialogue group.
Mattiussi and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 22 years and are the parents of three children, Dominic, Monica and Nicholas. He is the son of Armando and Eileen Mattiussi of Austintown.
