Flash-mob dance
SHARON, PA.
More than 1,000 Sharon School District pupils in grades three to eight will converge on Case Avenue Tuesday for a flash-mob dance.
The district is celebrating the beginning of state assessment tests with a choreographed dance to the Black Eyed Peas’ song “I Got a Feeling.” The theme for the day is “We’ve got a feeling you’re going to like what you see, we’re going to make AYP [Adequate Yearly Progress],” said the school district.
The dance kicks off a week-long series of events to get the students energized for the tests. It will be followed by a pep rally and speech by district Superintendent John Sarandrea. The PSSA tests in reading and math are scheduled from Wednesday until April 16.
Cars for sheriff
New Castle
U.S. Rep Jason Altmire of McCandless, D-4th, has presented the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office with $120,000 in federal funding to help it update and replace some of its vehicles. Altmire secured the funding through the 2010 federal budget, his office said. Many of the vehicles have been worn down by daily use.
Three 2003 vehicles have more than 150,000 miles each and frequently need repairs, Altmire’s office said. Despite its need for new vehicles, the sheriff’s office could not include money in its 2010 budget for replacements. Altmire presented the funds at the county courthouse Tuesday.
