‘Darwin’ exhibit coming to St. Louis

ST. LOUIS

An exhibit on naturalist Charles Darwin, whose theory of evolution revolutionized biology, will open next month in St. Louis.

The Saint Louis Science Center said the exhibition will open April 17 and run through Aug. 1. It is free to all museum visitors.

“Darwin” was organized by the American Museum of Natural History in collaboration with other institutions, including the Natural History Museum in London.

Darwin lived from 1809 to 1882. His work changed notions about the origin and nature of the human and other species and launched modern biological science. The exhibition explores his life and his theory.

Hard Rock plans new casino-hotel

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.

Drawn by the possibility of entering the nation’s second-largest gambling market at a discount price, Hard Rock International announced plans to build a $300 million casino-hotel on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

The Florida-based company would partner with New York-based Och-Ziff Real Estate at the southern end of the city, at the foot of the Black Horse Pike, one of three main entranceways to Atlantic City. Hard Rock said it has not yet determined how many hotel rooms it would build.

Hard Rock, which operates 13 casinos around the world, said it supports a bill introduced in New Jersey’s legislature that would permit new casinos with as few as 200 rooms, down from the current 500-room minimum.

Young space explorers will find a new frontier in Chicago. An extensive children’s exhibit opened at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium.

It’s called “Planet Explorers” and features a hands-on approach where children can crawl and climb through the exhibit. Organizers say the activities are recommended for children age 3 to 8.

The display includes microscopes, a stimulated rocket launch and a mock research station on the exhibit’s “Planet X.”

The exhibit opened to the public Friday.
