Trustees strike deal for better gas rate

Canfield Township officials have established a low seven-month rate for natural gas for members of the township’s endorsement program.

Residents in the Dominion East Ohio service territory and enrolled in the township’s natural gas program supplied by IGS Energy will pay a fixed rate of $6.39 per MCF for all gas consumed during the this year’s billing cycle months of May through November.

Residents in the Columbia Gas service territory will receive a fixed rate of .686 cents per CCF. A mailer announcing the new rates was sent by IGS Energy to residents and small businesses Mar. 25.

“Residents and businesses currently in the program do not need to take any action as they will automatically receive this rate. Our expiring rate of $7.46 per MCF was an excellent rate for our residents this past winter and we are delighted to have been able to strike an even lower rate going forward,” said Township Trustee Anthony Bettile.

Mark Burns, president of Independent Energy Consultants said wholesale natural gas prices are at six to seven-year lows and Canfield Township’s rates are being set at an excellent time.

This seven-month rate will take residents through the end of the current two-year program with IGS Energy.

“We’re pleased to serve the residents of Canfield Township,” said Doug Austin, vice president of IGS Energy. Residents who are served by another supplier may seek enrollment in the township’s endorsement program by calling IGS Energy at 800-280-4474.

Residents served by other suppliers are encouraged to review the terms and conditions of their current supplier agreement before enrolling.

New customers to the program must be in good standing and cannot be part of the utility’s Percentage of Income Payment Program (PIPP).
