Tolich sets meet record in discus, propels Fitch to team title

Fitch junior Ali Tolich set a meet record in the discus with a throw of 144 feet, 10 inches and also won the shot put to lead the Falcons to the team title at Thursday’s Cope Invitational at Reilly Stadium.

Fitch had 911‚Ñ2 points, while Wadsworth (781‚Ñ2) and McKinley (551‚Ñ2) finished second and third in the 16-team girls only meet.

Tolich’s discus throw won by nearly 25 feet over Wadsworth junior Hannah Gospodinsky. She threw 41-31‚Ñ4 to win the shot by less than a foot over Gospodinsky.

Falcons junior Jen Shiley finished second in the 400-meter dash and helped lead Fitch to the 4x400 title.

Other area winners were Chaney junior Shatasia Walker (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) LaBrae senior Allorian Horne (200), Poland freshman McKinsie Klim (3200), Canfield junior Leanna Hartsough (high jump), Mooney junior Elena Andino-Esparra (long jump), Mooney’s 4x100 team and Harding’s 4x200 team.
