Pole and wires down at Canfield intersection

Canfield — Motorists are asked by the Canfield Police Department to avoid the area of South Hillside Drive and U.S. Route 224 for the next several hours.

At about 1 p.m. a semi-truck brought down a utility pole near that intersection, causing the traffic light to go out and live wires to fall, according to a news release.

A police dispatcher said a witness told officers at the scene the truck hit a line that seemed to be hanging down too low, causing the entire pole to topple.

The area will be closed for three to four more hours while Ohio Edison crews repair the damage.
