Center band members earn high honors
More than 60 seventh and eighth grade Boardman Center Middle School band students participated in the Ohio Music Education Association’s annual solo and ensemble competition Mar. 20 at Struthers High School and received 36 superior and 23 excellent ratings.
Soloists that received a I (superior) rating included clarinetists Abbey Johnson and Abby Slater; flutists Alexis Cailor, Amanda Briach, Katelynn Morrell, Maria Sebastion and Victoria Valko; alto saxophonists Erica Palocyi and Zack Fryda; tenor saxophonist Lucas Bevacqua; oboists Jessica Crew, Nick Cordova and Jillian Heidenreich; tubist Julie Pavlich; and snare drummers Mark Hadley, Stefan Roth and Tim Mook.
Soloists Antonio Chito, baritone, Brandon Ciavarella, snare drummers Caty Baker and Kelly Tomcsanyi, flutist Holly King and Nick Cordova, alto saxophonist Stephen Brown, oboist Rocco DeNiro and Ryan Woolweaver, trombone and Stefen Lesnansky, tuba, received a II (excellent) rating.
The following ensembles received a I (superior) rating, Baker Flute Trio, Clarinet Choir, Woodwind Quintet, Bergman Saxophone Trio, Brown Woodwind Trio, Cailor Flute Quartet, Christmas Saxophone Quartet, Cordova Saxophone Quartet, Dickey Clarinet Trio, Downie Quartet, Fryda Saxophone Trio, Gianfrancesco Woodwind Trio, Heidenreich Woodwind Trio, King Saxophone Trio, Morrell Flute Quartet, Sailor Percussion Ensemble, Schantz Percusion Trio, Valko Flute Trio and Woolweaver Brass Trio.
The Bramer Low Brass Ensemble, DeNiro Low Brass Ensemble, Dickey Brass Quartet, Emery Trumpet Trio, Eorio Brass Quartet, Hobard Trumpet Trio, Jones Trombone Trio,Ouimet Trumpet Trio, Palmer Clarinet Trio, Sebastian Flute Trio, Slater Clarinet Quartet, Statler Trombone Quartet and Lesnansky Brass Quartet all received II (superior) ratings.
