POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

March 25

Criminal mischief: An Erie Street man reported someone cut and tried to removed a window screen.

Theft: A student at Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave., and her mother reported the theft of the student’s jacket.

Drugs: Police investigated a report of possible drug trafficking in the township.

Assault: Took place in the 4000 block of Monticello Boulevard. No other details were in the report.

March 26

Stolen property: Police stopped a truck in the 30 block of East Liberty Street thought to have contained stolen merchandise.

March 29

Arrest: Boardman police held Patricia A. Hunt of Youngstown on a robbery charge. Hunt also was wanted by Hubbard authorities on a warrant.

March 30

Assault: Officers responded to a fight between a driver and a person on a bicycle in the 400 block of North Main Street, where the bicycle rider said the driver had nearly run him over.

Theft: Police charged Beki L. Kraynak, no information given, after a shoplifting situation at Devine’s Shop ‘n’ Save, 529 N. Main St.

Recovered property: Girard police found a 2009 Chevrolet that a First Street woman had reported stolen.

LIBERTY

March 26

Criminal damaging: Someone slashed two of a car’s tires and used a key to damage its trunk’s finish in the 1400 block of Townsend Avenue.

Forgery: A Belmont Avenue man learned that someone had cashed two of his forged checks for a total of $15,000 and made $13,000 worth of fraudulent withdrawals from the account.

Theft: A 19-year-old Youngstown man was accused of, but not charged with, stealing $24 worth of makeup and food from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.

March 27

Drugs: Police charged Willie A. Gregory, 19, of 1175 Park Hill Drive, Youngstown, with drug abuse when, police said, two small bags of suspected marijuana were found in his possession. The arrest was made after a traffic stop on Belmont Avenue. Gregory also was wanted on a warrant from Boardman.

Bad checks: A charge was pending against a 45-year-old Brookfield man after an employee with AT&T, 3614 Belmont Ave., said he had paid for seven cell phones with personal checks, three of which were from a closed account.

Criminal damaging: Someone shot at a residence in the 400 block of East Montrose Street, damaging a window, a closet door and a wall.

Theft: An Atlanta man reported $1,575 worth of tools missing that he had stored at a home in the 1000 block of Academy Drive.

Drugs: A traffic stop on Goldie Road resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Frank J. Karchar, 1617 Wick Ave., Youngstown, on a misdemeanor charge of drug possession. A bag with 10 pills was found, a report said.

Theft: A township woman’s purse was stolen at a Belmont Avenue store.

March 28

Criminal damaging: Someone tampered with landscaping lights along a driveway in the 2700 block of Merrell Drive.

Theft: A Gaithersburg, Md., woman at a Belmont Avenue motel discovered an in-dash stereo had been taken from her vehicle.

Criminal damaging: A knife was likely used to cut a tire to a truck in the 300 block of Mansell Drive.

Domestic violence: Police charged Debra A. Benner, 53, of 4634 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, with domestic violence after an 18-year-old Monticello Boulevard woman alleged her aunt had choked her after becoming upset when the accuser ate a candy bar.

March 29

Theft: More than $770 worth of jewelry was missing from a residence in the 1300 block of Willow Wood Drive.

Theft: A flat-screen TV/DVD/compact-disc player and a CD were stolen from a car in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive.

Criminal damaging: Someone cut down a tree without permission on township property near Belmont Avenue and Motor Inn Drive.

Theft: Police took into custody Richard R. Couturiaux, 27, of 105 Furlen Court, Hubbard, on a warrant from Youngstown after authorities responded to the theft of jewelry and earrings from Walmart. A theft charge was pending.

Arrest: Police arrested Samuel Washington, 56, of 150 E. Philadelphia Ave., Youngstown, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown on a warrant from the township.

Theft: Police arrested Charlene A. Whirles, 27, of 446 W. Maryland Ave., Sebring, on a warrant during a theft investigation at Walmart. She also was thought to have altered and destroyed a check belonging to someone else, so charges of theft, receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence were pending.

March 30

Theft: Richard Hall, 46, of 25 Market St., Youngstown, faced a felony count, accused of stealing from Walmart more than $580 worth of electronics and other items.

Theft: A woman reported china and clothing totaling $610 stolen from her Townsend Avenue home.

Theft: A charge was pending against a woman after about $48 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart.

Fraud: A Timbercrest Drive man discovered four personal checks stolen, and said his bank informed the accuser that someone had tried to cash one of the checks for $700.

Assault: A Trumbull Avenue woman reported her 8-year-old son had been assaulted on a school bus. The boy said another student tripped and struck him on the head.

Theft: Two men stole $53 worth of gasoline, as well as two bags of ice, from a Get Go station, 4700 Belmont Ave.

Theft: Prescription medications were taken from a bedroom at a residence in the 400 block of Colonial Drive.

March 31

Theft: A Fort Worth, Texas, man reported the theft of two checks and $500 from his room at a Belmont Avenue motel.

GIRARD

March 29

Menacing: A man at an East Main Street residence said another man who was intoxicated threw a punch at the accuser.

Burglary: Took place in the 500 block of Washington Avenue after someone kicked open a rear door. Stolen were a 46-inch flat-screen TV and a Wii game system and related accessories, for a $1,600 loss.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle’s driver’s-side window frame was pried off at an Elruth Court home.

March 30

Assault: Police responded to a fight in the 100 block of East Second Street and were told that an East Kline Street man had slammed a woman’s face into a truck.

Menacing: A Poplar Street woman said her son, 17, received a text message implying he would be harmed.

Recovered property: A 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt stolen in Hubbard was found in the 900 block of Patricia Avenue.

March 31

Theft: Prescription drugs were removed from a purse in a vehicle in the 500 block of North State Street.
