BlueCross lays off more than 80 people

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania insurance company has laid off more than 80 people in a cost-cutting move.

Capital BlueCross eliminated 182 positions Wednesday, although nearly a hundred of those were already vacant.

Company officials say the layoffs are a result of rising administration costs and lower membership numbers as a result of job losses in other businesses.

Capital BlueCross employs about 2,000 people in Pennsylvania.
