Farrell police don’t know why Arizona man was bound in house

FARRELL, Pa. (AP) — Police in western Pennsylvania are trying to figure out why an 18-year-old Arizona man was hogtied naked with duct tape in a rented house for four days before escaping last week.

Southwester Mercer County Regional Police say Patrick Mendoza, of Gilbert, Ariz. escaped from a rented home in Farrell on Friday. Police say Mendoza chewed through a plastic bag over his head and smashed a window with his head so his shouts for help could be heard.

Police say Mendoza was released from a Pittsburgh hospital Monday, and they’ve been interviewing him to determine why he was held captive. Police are still investigating Mendoza’s connection to the residents of the home, who have not been charged.
