Boardman boys, Canfield girls win county titles


AUSTINTOWN — Boardman’s boys team and Canfield’s girls team came away with Mahoning County cross country team titles at Austintown Township Park on Tuesday.

Boardman’s 40 points beat out Fitch (87) and Poland (96). Canfield’s girls registered 30 points with runner-up Boardman posting 52 and Fitch 96.

Boardman’s Sam Deskin had the fastest time of 16:42 over the 5k course, while Poland’s Sean Murphy was second in 17:03. Boardman’s Eddie Adu-Poku came in third (17:24), followed by South Range’s Ryan Roush (17:26). Boardman’s Brandon Pasvanis (17:32) rounded out the top five.

Lowellville’s Monica Ciarniello won the girls race in 20:03, while Canfield’s Emma Lunne and Jennifer Love finished 2-3. Boardman’s Victoria Moore was fourth in 20:56 and West Branch’s Andrea Wingett was fifth in 21:07.

Trumbull County

CORTLAND — Patrick Kunkel and Jerry Dugan finished 3-4 at the Trumbull County meet to lead McDonald to victory over Maplewood, 32-42.

The Rockets’ Tom Bottorff and Eric Rupe took the top two individual spots.

Krystal Williams led Maplewood to the girls title, edging McDonald 36-39. Brookfield’s Angie Kirila won the race while McDonald’s Sarah Jones placed second.

Columbiana County

SALEM — East Liverpool senior Jacob Boyer won the individual title to lead the Potters to the team title at the Columbiana County meet.

Columbiana’s Ryan Sampson was second and Leetonia’s Ryan Grimm third.

Freshman Mallory Maher and senior Bethany Huston finished 3-4 to lead Salem to the girls title. East Palestine senior Leighann Kelvington won the race and East Liverpool’s Maggie McIvain placed second.
