Pumpkin Patch sale, special events listed

COLUMBIANA The Youth Ministry of Columbiana First Presbyterian Church, 28 E. Park Ave., will have a Pumpkin Patch sale and special events each Saturday and Sunday in October.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, and from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 25, pumpkins, cornstalks, Indian corn, straw and fall ribbons will be sold. On Oct. 19 there will also be an estate sale.

On Oct. 10 homemade chicken noodle, beef vegetable and wedding soup will also be available in carryout quarts for $5.50; and on Oct. 17 there will also be a bake sale. On Oct. 25 hay rides will also be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. from the church parking lot to Firestone Park and back.

Fall festival at church

CANFIELD — A fall festival and health and wellness fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at Western Reserve Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road. There will be free health screenings, crafters and business displays, a caf , kids crafts, games, a Chinese auction and hourly door prizes. Call (330) 792-5805 for more information.

Saxon Club schedules Goulash Night event

AUSTINTOWN — The Concordia Chorus of the Youngstown Saxon Club will have its annual Goulash Night dinner and concert Oct. 17 at the Saxon Club Ballroom, 710 S. Meridian Road.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. After dinner the chorus will present a musical program featuring a number of gypsy-themed songs, under the direction of Sarah Phillips Kopp, director-accompanist.

Bereavement Committee volunteers are needed

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Jameson Hospice of Lawrence county is recruiting Bereavement Committee volunteers who are willing to offer support and encouragement to those who have recently lost a loved one.

Jameson Hospice bereavement volunteers call assigned family members from their own home and at their own pace every two months to talk with them to see how they are doing after a death. This brings a great deal of comfort to families following their loss. Hospice will train volunteers and work with them until they are comfortable calling family members.

Senior production company organized

CORTLAND — The recently organized Trumbull Senior Production Company met for the first time at the home of Jason Burgermyer, choreographer and director.

The goal of the company is to enrich the lives and health of residents 50 and over through performances and participation in musical productions, including all aspects of the performing arts. The first show is scheduled for September of 2010.

Burgermyer is president of the company, and his associate officers are Carol Bovee, vice president; Mary Hovance, treasurer; and Judy Mackey, secretary. The board of directors are Burgermyer, Bovee, Hovance, Diane Urcheck, Terry Sexton, Leslie Wilkinson, Jean Bollinger, Judy Mackey, Barb Bradford and Becky Noftsinger.

Rotarians hear speaker

AUSTINTOWN — The Rotary Club of Austintown recently welcomed Teresa Boyce to speak about homeless families in the Mahoning Valley.

Beatitude House, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters, is committed to disadvantaged women and children in the Mahoning Valley. By creating homes, providing educational opportunities and fostering healthy families, Beatitude House gives them the opportunity to transform their lives.

Sweetest Day Dance STRUTHERS — The Mahoning Valley Italian Society, Inc. Tony Mannariti Lodge 001, is sponsoring a Sweetest Day Dance and scholarship fundraiser, which will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 17. The dance will take place at the Sulmona Valley Club, 92 S. Bridge St.

Music will be by Vince Camp and Joe Mazzocca Sr. The cost is $10 per person, which includes a sausage sandwich. Additional sandwiches and homemade pizza will be available.

Sorority member honored for service

YOUNGSTOWN — Beta Sigma Phi, Youngstown Chapter XI Kappa Sigma, honored Beverly Magda during a 50 Year Golden Circle Award Ritual at the Sept. 10 meeting.

During her 50 years of service to the organization, Magda has been actively involved, and has served in each of the group’s offices. She retired as a secretary from Youngstown Board of Education and works part time at Mooney High School.

The mother of three and grandmother of five children, she enjoys playing boccie.

Craft show is planned

HERMITAGE, Pa. — Crafters are invited to participate in the annual Old Hickory Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 24 at Hickory High School.

DAR chapter meets

CANFIELD — On Sept. 14, the Mahoning Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution had their meeting at A La Cart Catering.

Regent Rosa Dalbec welcomed members and guests. JoAnn Cook spoke about the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Ellis Island.

The chapter gives American flags to new citizens at the Mahoning County Courthouse on a monthly basis. The next meeting will take place at A La Cart on Oct. 12. Doug Martin will speak on the importance of agriculture. For more information call (330) 533-7782.
