Pink Tie event promises an ‘Affair to Remember’

BOARDMAN — On Sunday, Brenda Rider’s A Way With Words Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with Simon Properties and local businesses, will present a Pink Tie Formal at the Southern Park Mall.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. and take place in the mall’s west concourse. The Pink Tie event is designed to benefit the many programs of the A Way With Words Foundation, ROCcK Children’s Choir, and breast cancer programs within the Mahoning Valley.

The Pink Tie Formal, “An Awwwmazing Affair to Remember,” will feature dinner, ballroom dancing, original art, auctions, and valet parking. Dinner will be served by the Georgetown at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by live music provided by the Top Notes, a 19-member big band sensation. Professional ballroom dancers will also perform, instruct and entertain throughout the evening.

The live auction will showcase such items as Waterford crystal and Tiffany lamps donated by Denise DeBartolo York, an original Disney painting by pop artist Chris Yambar, a diamond and gold necklace valued at $500, an autographed script from “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and a playbill from “The Producers” autographed by Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. There will be plenty of silent and Chinese auction items, too.

The Awwwmazing Place Boutique will remain open during the event so guests can view world-class rock concert photography by Janet Macoska and paintings by automotive illustrator Guy Shively. Guests will be able to view the Awww Bras Art Bra competition, in which every decorated bra will be a work of art. Each bra is donated by an area artist and will be judged and auctioned off at the end of October.

The Pink Tie Formal is sponsored by Pipino Insurance, The Fitnesst, Denise DeBartolo York, Tiffany Breast Care Center, Fok & Associates, Valley Awning & Tent, and others.
