Energy network to meet Tuesday

CHAMPION — Athan Barkoukis, Northeast Ohio program manager for Green Energy Ohio, will be the main speaker for a Clean Energy Network meeting from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Room 117 of Kent State University Trumbull Campus Technology Building. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Barkoukis will discuss grants, rebates, tax credits and other incentives available to homeowners and small businesses for installations of alternative-energy systems. Recent federal legislation extends tax credits through 2016.

Barkoukis will discuss the existing Advanced Energy Commercial Grant Program offered by the Ohio Department of Development’s energy office and will explain the Green Energy Ohio Residential Solar Thermal Rebate Program for solar-water-heating systems purchased after April 1, 2009.

Barkoukis is a Cleveland native and holds a degree in biology from Colgate University, where he studied climate change in Antarctica. In 2006, he received a master of science degree in environmental studies from the College of Charleston, where he studied environmental policy and worked as a graduate assistant for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
