Roush guides Raiders to title at Lordstown Jean Smith Inv.
LORDSTOWN — South Range’s Ryan Roush cruised to victory in Saturday’s 11-team Lordstown “Jean Smith” Invitational, helping the Raiders successfully defend their boys team title in the event.
Roush finished with a time of 16:56, while teammates Jeff Felger and Cameron Clark finished fourth and fifth, respectively to help South Range easily best second-place Lowellville 37-81.
Jackson-Milton’s Josh Stevens (17:17) and Mineral Ridge’s Cole Palmer finished second and third.
Lowellville senior Monica Ciarniello (20:03) placed first in the girls race and teammate Rachel Durkin was fifth to lead the Rockets to the team title, edging South Range 52-60. Brookfield’s Angie Kirila (20:49) was second, followed by Lordstown’s Courtney Beatty and LaBrae’s Amanda Richards.
With more than 200 runners in high school junior high, Saturday’s race was the biggest in the event’s 10-year history.
Niles Invitational
NILES — Poland’s Sean Murphy placed first in the Niles Invitational with a time of 16:38 to lead the Bulldogs to the team title, edging Girard 40-62. Teammates Matt Gleydura and Tyler Raubenstraw were fifth and sixth.
Howland’s Aaron Sutton took second (17:10) and Girard’s Brian Delbene was fourth.
On the girls side, Howland’s Haley Buzulencia placed first in 21:46 as the Tigers finished second behind Jefferson, 36-53. Girard’s Desiree DeFrank was fifth.
