Girard drops LaBrae; Hubbard, Poland win tourney titles


GIRARD — Chelsea Guerrieri had eight kills, 17 points, seven aces, six digs and one block and Morgan Walters 19 assists, nine points and two aces to propel Girard to a 25-13, 25-16, 25-19 win over LaBrae in a volleyball match Saturday.

Bryanna Jay contributed nine kills and one block and Lyndsey Crown eight kills and two blocks to help the Indians (9-6).

For LaBrae (8-7), Courtney Aldridge had four kills and two blocks and Leah Fumerola nine assists and two aces.

JVs: Girard won, 25-27, 25-16.

Hubbard 25-25, Jefferson 2-10 Hubbard 25-25, Hickory 11-10 Hubbard 25-25, GlenOak 14-14

HUBBARD — Lexi Starheim came up with 16 kills and eight blocks as Hubbard defeated Jefferson in a quarterfinal, Hickory in a semifinal and Canton GlenOak in the final of the Hubbard Classic.

Jackie Carlisle chipped in with 25 kills, Marcy Angelo 41 assists and Dawn Lingenfelter 41 digs to also pace the Eagles.

ZOAR — Tuscarawas Valley continued on the undefeated trail by by handing Salem its first defeat of the season.

Salem (11-1) was led by Lydia Shivers with one ace, two kills and eight blocks and Amy Scullion with 33 kills, five blocks and one ace.

In addition, Mariah Halleck contributed seven kills and two blocks and Laura Brown 44 assists.

BROOKFIELD — For Brookfield (8-5, 6-2 AAC), Brooklynn Hansley had 19 digs, seven kills and three blocks; Ashley Swezey had 29 digs and 17 kills, Amy Balakoff had 17 points, Tori Thompson had 10 points and 35 assists, Alexa Dobozi had five blocks and Amy Balakoff had two aces.

Poland 25-25, Chaney 17-16 Poland 26-25, Perry 24-21 Poland 25-25, Lakeview 23-15

CORTLAND — Poland defeated Lakeview in the championship match of the Lakeview High Blue and White Classic, after the Bulldogs disposed of Perry in a semifinal and Chaney in a first-round match.

Amanda Molaskey was a leader in all three of the Bulldogs’ wins.

Against Lakeview, she compiled 18 assists, seven points, one ace, three digs and two blocks, while Leanna Yeager added three kills, six digs, two points and two blocks. Lauren Tadla chipped in with seven kills, three assists.

Molaskey contributed 15 assists, three points, two aces, three digs and two kills against Perry. She was reinforced by Mackenzie Mulligan with five points, two aces and two blocks and Sarah Marchese with five kills and two digs.

Against Chaney, Molaskey delivered 17 assists, five points, four aces and four digs, while Emma Buzas added four kills, three digs and five points and Tadla 11 kills.
