Family honoring Mr., Mrs. Allen for anniversary

POLAND — Mr. and Mrs. William Allen, 2302 Lyon Blvd., are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary today.

Hosts for a dinner party in their honor at 2 p.m. at Selah’s Restaurant in Struthers are their children and their spouses, Dara and Rick Hansen of Livonia, Mich.; Don and Lori Allen of Mount Vernon; Caryl and Rick Karalic of Clinton; and Terri and Tom Williams of Poland. There are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren in the family.

A special guest will be Bette Friend of North Carolina, a sister of Mrs. Allen who was the honor attendant at the couple’s wedding.

Fairview Baptist Church in Youngstown was the setting on Sept. 26, 1959, as Mr. Allen and the former Freddie Akins were united in marriage. They are members of Struthers Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Allen, a 50-year member of Ohio Eastern Star, was an office manager with Ross Radio Co. and a sales associate at Strouss. She served as organist at many area churches.

Mr. Allen retired in 1999 from Metal Carbides Corp., where he was employed 37 years. He is presently a toll collector for the Ohio Turnpike Commission, and a member and past master of Poland Lodge 766, F&AM.
