What to Watch

“The National Parks: America’s Best Idea” (9 p.m., PBS): Ken Burns is back with another epic documentary, and this time he’s delving into the history of the national park system. “Best Idea” is teeming with gorgeous scenery for more than 12 hours, but it’s not just about pretty pictures. The film introduces viewers to individuals from various backgrounds — some famous and some not — who devoted much of their lives to preserve the land they loved. Part 1 looks at naturalist John Muir and his arrival in Yosemite Valley.

“The Amazing Race” (8 p.m., CBS): “The Amazing Race” returns for another mad dash around the world, and there are a couple of ringers in the mix — actual Harlem Globetrotters, Nathaniel Lofton and Lance Layne.

“The Cleveland Show” (8:30 p.m., Fox): Seth MacFarlane’s cartoon world continues to expand. Brace yourself for “The Cleveland Show,” a bawdy “Family Guy” spinoff that has Cleveland Brown moving to Stoolbend, Va., to reconnect with his high-school flame.

“Desperate Housewives” (9 p.m., ABC): So who did Mike Delfino take to the altar? We’ll find out on the Season 6 opener of “Desperate Housewives.” We’ll also meet a mysterious new housewife played by Drea de Matteo of “Sopranos” fame.
