Vaclav scores two TDs as Canfield rolls past Struthers


CANFIELD — Kyle Vaclav had a 67-yard punt return and a 38-yard interception return as Canfield beat Struthers 42-6 Friday night.

Ben Angelo also added a pair of touchdowns, one in the air and the other on the ground for Canfield (4-1).

Struthers’ lone score came in the fourth quarter on a Jermayne Brooks 33-yard run.

Howland 42, Chaney 12

HOWLAND — Matt Preston carried five times for 43 yards and a touchdown and also completed 11 of 11 passes for 110 yards and three scores to lead Howland (5-0), which led 42-0 after three quarters.

Mike Mangiarelli carried two times for 33 yards and a touchdown and also caught a 25-yard TD from Preston. Davion Smith and Alex Jimenez had the other TD catches and David VonBergern had a 3-yard TD run.

Chaney (0-5) scored on an interception return and a blocked punt return.

Zanesville 49, Beaver Local 7

ZANESVILLE — Ricky May caught a 14-yard TD pass from Evan Schneider late in the second quarter to cut Beaver Local’s deficit to 13-7, but that was as close as it got for the Beavers (0-5).

Cole Hudson hit 9 of 15 passes for 199 yards and three TDs to lead Zanesville (5-0).

Newton Falls 31, Brookfield 12

NEWTON FALLS — John Davis rushed 19 times for 114 yards and two short touchdowns to lead the Tigers (4-1, 1-1 All-American Conference Blue Tier).

Matt Brazin, who hit on 8 of 13 passes for 107 yards for Newton Falls, threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Brian Moser (3-55) to make it 10-0 at the break.

The Warriors (0-5, 0-2) got touchdown runs from Joe Kirila (48 yards) and Jeremy Quinlan (10).
