Route 11 restrictions

COLUMBIANA — State Route 11 northbound will be restricted next week between the state Route 154 on-ramp and the state Route 164 overpass. Beginning Monday, Ohio Department of Transportation’s Columbiana County maintenance crews and Allied Corporation Inc. from Twinsburg will be performing spot paving on about four miles of Route 11 northbound. One lane of traffic will be maintained. Southbound lanes will not be affected. The work is expected to take three days to complete and cost about $162,000, according to ODOT.

Benefit for J-M teacher

NORTH JACKSON — A benefit dinner for Tiffany Obradovich, a Jackson-Milton Elementary School teacher suffering with colon cancer, is Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The school is at 14110 Mahoning Ave.

Obradovich is also Jackson-Milton Middle School volleyball coach and longtime North Jackson resident. Proceeds from the benefit, which includes a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction and bake sale, will help offset expenses not paid for by insurance.

Dinner tickets are $8 for adults $4 for children. Those under age 2 eat for free.

Ag society election

LISBON — Columbiana County Agricultural Society will have its annual election of fair board directors from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Arts & Crafts Building at the fairgrounds. Only members of the agricultural society are eligible to vote. Any member interested in becoming a candidate may pick up a petition at the fair office by calling (330) 424-5531 to make the necessary arrangements. Petitions are to be filed with the appropriate signatures by 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Lottery players on a roll

CLEVELAND – Three players of an Ohio Lottery on-line game were on a winning roll. Paula C. Rey of Akron will split a $173,000 jackpot with Tammy S. Deak of North Jackson after having tickets that matched all five numbers in the Sept. 22 Rolling Cash 5 game. Lori R. Williams of Warren won $249,000 for matching five numbers in the Sept. 9 Rolling Cash 5 drawing. After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent, Rey and Deak will each receive a check for $59,685. Williams will receive a check for $171,810.

Miller jury trial set

WARREN — A jury trial is set for Nov. 2 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court for Oryan L. Miller, 19, of Hall Street, charged with complicity to murder and complicity to aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery in a Dec. 23 robbery-homicide in Howland.

Miller is accused of participating in the robbery at Cameron Murray’s apartment on Sandpiper Trail that resulted in the death of Murray, 21, and Delshawn Scrivens, 25, of Wood Street Southwest, Warren.

Police say Scrivens and Miller were dropped off at the apartment and killed Murray during a robbery. Scrivens and Miller were also hit by gunfire, and Scrivens later died in the hospital.

Michael Ahladis, 24, of Jefferson Street Southwest, Warren, has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and other charges for driving Scrivens and Miller to and from the robbery. He is expected to testify at the trial.

If convicted, Miller could spend 15 years to life in prison. He is in Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.

Lawyers luncheon

YOUNGSTOWN — Barbara Howard, president of the Ohio State Bar Association, will address the annual OSBA District 13 luncheon concerning current issues facing lawyers at noon Wednesday at the Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St.

Attys. David C. Comstock of Poland and Lawrence W. Stacey of Columbiana will be honored for 50 years as lawyers, and E. Donna Cherrill of Youngstown will be honored for 65 years as a lawyer.
