Boardman earns first Federal League win


MASSILLON — Nick Buonavalonta carried 17 times for 117 yards and a TD as the Boardman High football team turned back Massillon Perry 34-16 in a Federal League game on Friday.

Ken Jones had two catches for 35 yards and a touchdown, Ben Ragan booted a 42-yard field goal and a 39-yard field goal and Dan Fernbach added a 82-yard interception return late in the third quarter to put it away for the Spartans (3-2, 1-1).

Perry is 2-3, 0-2.

Youngstown Christian 39, Mathews 12

VIENNA — Caleb Yanno, John Pecchia and Eric French provided the bulk of the offense for Youngstown Christian (2-3), which fell into a 12-6 first-period hole before rallying to score 33 straight points to overpower winless Mathews (0-5).

Yanno scored three touchdowns on runs of 44 and 5 yards and on a 30-yard pass from Pecchia. Yanno finished with 163 yards rushing in 15 carries. He also had three receptions for 67 yards.

Pecchia also threw a 27-yard pass to French and wound up with 157 yards in the air on 8-for-15.

French also scored on a 28-yard dash and had three catches for 60 yards.

Warren Harding 35, Euclid 7

WARREN — Mike Dorsey carried 19 times for 100 yards and Jordan Miller added 46 on the ground to lead the Raiders (3-1-1).

Miller also completed 9 of 15 passes for 152 yards and four TDs. DeAver Williamson, Edward Killingsworth, Scott Manusakis and Dorsey also had TD receptions.

Allen Crawford carried 10 times for 73 yards to lead Euclid (3-2).

Ravenna 33, Southeast 0

RAVENNA — Southeast (0-5, 0-2 Portage Trail Conference) was unable to produce anything against league rival Ravenna (3-2, 2-2).

Wide receiver Eric Fleming had two catches for 14 yards of the Pirates’ 18 yards of total offense.

West Branch 21, Alliance 20

ALLIANCE — It took overtime and a blocked extra point to push West Branch (2-3, 1-1 Northeastern Buckeye Conference) past Alliance (1-4, 0-2 NBC) at Mount Union Stadium.

Mark Smith led the attack for the Warriors with 179 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Cleveland Heights 29, East 0

Mohawk 13, Freedom 12

FREEDOM, Pa — Jeremy Herzog rushed for 125 yards on 16 carries, but was unable to come out with a victory as Johnny Beatty threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns for Mohawk.

Tim Audia led Mohawk with seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown.
