UAW, Ford continue work on contract modifications

PLYMOUTH, Mich. β€” United Auto Workers union president Ron Gettelfinger says working on additional contract modifications with Ford Motor Co. β€œis a delicate balance,” as both sides try to protect their interests while maintaining a good relationship.

Gettelfinger said talks between Ford and the union continue, as Ford is looking to make minor changes to things such as work rules in an effort to make its latest modified contract on par with General Motors Corp. and Chrysler Group LLC.

Mortgage rates remain close to record lows

WASHINGTON β€” Rates for 30-year home loans were unchanged this week and remain close to record-low levels.

The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage was 5.04 percent, the same as a week earlier, mortgage company Freddie Mac said Thursday. Rates, though above the record low of 4.78 percent hit in the spring, are still attractive for people looking to buy a home or refinance.

The average rate on a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage fell to 4.46 percent, from 4.47 percent last week, according to Freddie Mac.
