Winslow’s to reopen as part of Antone’s family

YOUNGSTOWN — Winslow’s Cafe at the Butler Institute of American Art will reopen by the end of the month under the management of Antone’s restaurant group.

The eatery at the rear of the museum closed last month after the Butler refused to renew the contract of the operator, Thymely Events Inc., which operates coffee shops in several Mahoning Valley libraries.

It has been a popular place for both museum visitors and Youngstown State University students and employees.

When the cafe reopens, it will be under the management of Antone’s, a regional Italian-restaurant group with 11 locations, plus two Jeremiah Bullfrog’s sports bars.

Ross Scianna, owner of Antone’s, was at the Butler late last week as renovations to Winslow’s were under way.

Winslow’s Cafe by Antone’s, as it will be called, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. The cafe has its own entrance, so it can remain open even when the museum is closed.

Winslow’s can seat 90 — 50 in the cafe and 40 in the lobby — and will employ 15, said Scianna. It will serve breakfast all day. Lunch entrees will include salads, soups and sandwiches, as well as some Italian specialties such as chicken francese, stuffed pork loin and baked pasta dishes.

Breakfast offerings will include oversized muffins, croissant sandwiches and “lots of coffees,” said Scianna.

The new room also will have free wi-fi and several large-screen televisions.
