Hughes powers Boardman to shut out over Canton McKinley

CANTON — Heather Hughes scored six goals to power Boardman to a 7-0 victory over Canton McKinley on Wednesday night.

Hailey Dickey had one goal while Kristy Lake had four assists and Danielle Petrus, Cheyenne Khatib and Chelsea Billock one assist each to aid the Spartans (7-2, 3-0 Federal League).

Khatib, the Boardman goalie, had two saves.

McKinley goalie Emily Niewiadomski had 14 saves.

Fitch 1, Hoover 0

AUSTINTOWN — Jen Shiley scored Fitch’s goal on an assist from Emily Durina in a Federal League match.

Fitch (3-3-2, 2-1 FL) had a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 2-0 margin on corner kicks.

Fitch goalie Ali Tolich had three saves while Hoover (2-4-3, 0-2-2) goalie Marisa Cotsmire had six saves.

Struthers 3, Beaver Local 3

STRUTHERS — Alana Smith scored in the second half for Struthers to tie the game, but the Wildcats couldn’t get the game-winner.

Ashley Baron added two goals while Natalie Nuttle came up with an assist for the Wildcats (3-5-1).

Missy Headley had two goals and Allie Bangor one for Beaver Local (6-2-1). Sam Cook and Natalie Bowdler each added an assist.

Rachel Assagato has 11 stops for Struthers and Kim Rotellini had 15 for Beaver Local.

West Branch 2, Alliance 1

ALLIANCE — Bekah Zets scored both goals, while Niki Carlton and Katie Kubeck each came up with an assist as West Branch toppled Alliance.

Ciara Ford scored the lone goals for the Aviators, while Bri Davis added an assist.

Sierra Woolf has six saves in goal for the Warriors and Katie Henderson four saves for Alliance.

JVs: Alliance 1-0.

Boys Columbiana 2, Crestview 0

COLUMBIANA — Jared Harrold and Kyle Spickler each scored a goal as Columbiana toppled Crestview.

Hank Schueter and Zack Good each had an assist for the Clippers, while goalkeeper Alex Berble came up with 12 saves. Crestview’s goalie Derek Bable finished with 10 saves.

Boardman 3, Canton McKinley 0

BOARDMAN — Ryan Tomko and Devrim Olgum, both seniors, scored all three goals to highlight senior night for the Spartans on Tuesday.

Tomko had two goals and an assist, while Olgum added one goal and one assist.

Goalkeeper Garrett Pancake had three saves for the Spartans (7-1-1).

Canton McKinley (1-7) had four saves from goalkeeper Jared Flannery.
