Forensic scientist to testify at murder trial today
STAFF REPORT
WARREN — Brenda Girardi, a forensic scientist with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, will be among the last two prosecution witnesses to testify today in the aggravated-murder trial of Eugene Cumberbatch.
Girardi is expected to testify about DNA evidence police recovered from a cell phone and sunglasses found at the scene of the April 13 double homicide on Wick Street Southeast.
The last witness will be a representative from the Mahoning County coroner’s office testifying regarding the death of Lloyd McCoy Jr., at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Testifying Wednesday were several Warren police officers; Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk, Trumbull County coroner; and fingerprint and gun specialists with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
Cumberbatch, 27, of Front Street Southwest, is accused of helping Eugene Henderson, 25, of Lane Drive Southwest, fire guns into a house on Wick Street. Henderson’s trial is set for Nov. 2.
The gunfire killed Lloyd McCoy Jr., 11, and Marvin Chaney, 26.
If convicted, Cumberbatch could spend the rest of his life in prison without parole.
