Doris Roberts to speak at Packard

WARREN — Actress Doris Roberts, who won an Emmy Award for her role as the beloved but meddlesome mother on the popular television series “Everybody Loves Raymond,” will speak at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Packard Music Hall. Her appearance is part of the Trumbull Town Hall lecture series.

Roberts’ career has taken her through theater, film and television. She received one of five Actress of the Year awards in 2001 from the American Film Institute.

Her career began in 1955 when she debuted on Broadway in William Saroyan’s “The Time of Your Life.”

Roberts’ film credits include “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” “A Lonely Way to Die,” “Heartbreak Kid” and “Simple Justice.”

She also is active in community service and founded Children Affected by AIDS and Puppies Behind Bars.

After Wednesday’s lecture, Roberts will sell and sign copies of her book, “Are You Hungry, Dear? — Life, Laughs and Lasagna,” for $19. Twenty percent of the revenue will be returned to Trumbull Town Hall.

The hall will open at 9 a.m. for pre-lecture refreshments in the lobby.

Season tickets are still available for $60. The remaining lectures are Roland Mesnier, former White House pastry chef, Nov. 4; Bill Schustik, American troubadour, March 10; and Dr. Elliot Engel, scholar and performer, April 14.
