Canfield, Poland battle to 1-1 tie


CANFIELD — Poland’s Cooper Kostetic finished with 13 saves and and Canfield’s Mike Thomas had 11 as the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in an All-American Conference White Division boys soccer game Tuesday.

The Cardinal’s goal was scored by P.J. Stickle with an assist from Tony El-Hayek, while the Bulldogs’ goal was scored by Brian Ciccone with an assist from Ryan Storkel.

JVs: Poland 3, Canfield 1.

Hubbard 2, Salem 1

HUBBARD — Connor Mogg scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick with 13 minutes left in the second half to lift Hubbard (3-3-6, 1-1 AAC White) in a game with five yellow cards.

Kem Kemner had the first goal on an assist by Sterling Morris and Steve Roose had five saves.

Salem scored on an own goal by Hubbard. Rodney Hughes had three saves.

JVs: 0-0.

Lordstown 3, Heartland Christian 2

LORDSTOWN — Ryan Behner scored three goals, including the winner late in the second half to lead Lordstown.

Ben Zhou scored twice for Heartland, while Ben McCown added an assist.

Joe Fitzgibbon had 11 saves for the Red Devils and Owen Stryffler made eight saves for Heartland.

Girls Springfield 3, South Range 1

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield’s Jaclyn Tabaka scored two goals and Lexy Zubick added one goal for the Tigers.

Zubick also had an assist.

South Range’s goal was registered by Taylor Witmer.

Springfield goalie Tiffany Johnson saved 11 goals, while South Range’s keeper stopped 14 shots.

Struthers 3, Girard 1

STRUTHERS — Ashley Baron scored three goals, two in the second half to lead Struthers (3-5) over Girard (1-5-1).

Rachel Affagato had five saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Girard’s goal was by Nicole Mrofchak, while goalkeeper Melissa Weitzman had 14 saves.

LaBrae 7, Liberty 0

LIBERTY — Sharea Elkins and Julie Gibson each scored two goals for the Vikings (6-2-1, 2-1-1 All-American Conference Blue Tier).

Cara Brady, Gabby Borawiec and Miranda Dugan scored the other goals.

Katelyn Downey, Kriscinda Frazier and Gianna Cibella had assists.

Vikings goalkeeper Kelsie Daniel made one save.

Liberty’s goalkeepers made 18 saves.

Badger 3, Conneaut 1

CONNEAUT — Shawna McNeely scored two goals and Olivia Vanscoy added the third for Badger, while Stacy Deraway had an assist.

Kelsey Flowers had eight saves in goal.

Maggie Boyle scored for Conneaut on a penalty kick.
