CANFIELD — The public is invited to watch the two-day Northern Ohio Horse Futurity Show, an American Quarter Horse association-approved event, this weekend at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

The show is to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday in the draft-horse section of the fairgrounds and is expected to last all day both days.

The futurity show will test horses’ abilities in dozens of classes and feature events such as longeline (judging how a horse moves in a line), halter classes, reigning and showmanship.

Horses also will be judged on the way they move with saddles of various sizes as well as how they handle an obstacle course, said Chris Darnell, show secretary.

The free event will be broken into six age categories, with some owners as young as age 6, she said. All must be AQHA members and have a registered quarter horse, Darnell noted, adding that she expects some participants to come from as far away as Michigan.

Exhibitors will earn points that can qualify them to take part in the AQHA World Championship Show, set for November in Oklahoma City.
