PSU LB Lee has left knee sprain

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — No. 5 Penn State’s star linebacker Sean Lee has a sprained left knee.

A team spokesman said his availability for practice is day to day. Lee was listed as “possible” on the depth chart for Saturday’s Big Ten opener against Iowa.

Lee appeared to get hurt during the first half of last week’s 31-6 win over Temple. The team captain stayed in the game until midway through the fourth quarter, when he limped off to the sideline.

The injury was initially called a minor lower left leg injury, and fellow linebacker Josh Hull had said immediately after the game that Lee had a cramp but would be OK.

Lee was named the Big Ten’s defensive player of the week after compiling 12 tackles and a sack against the Owls. He has team highs of 32 tackles and 7.5 tackles for losses this season, and has shown no ill effects from the right knee injury that forced him to miss the entire 2008 season.
