Proposal on Ohio’s state power concerning health care goes to full Senate

COLUMBUS (AP) — An Ohio Senate committee has approved a resolution that would affirm Ohio’s state powers as President Barack Obama seeks to make changes to the health-care system

The State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs committee approved the resolution today by state Sen. Tim Grendell. It now heads to the full Senate.

It would affirm the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, giving all powers not specifically delegated to the federal government to the states and the people.

Grendell, a Chesterland Republican, believes the federal government is overreaching its authority under the Obama administration in areas such as health-care legislation. The resolution says states are often treated as “agents” of the federal government.
