Cleveland diocese ex-accountant gets one year and one day in prison

CLEVELAND (AP) — A former Cleveland Catholic Diocese accountant has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison on his conviction for funneling $784,000 in kickbacks to a diocesan official.

U.S. District Judge Ann Aldrich sentenced 42-year-old Anton Zgoznik on conspiracy and 14 other federal counts today.

Last week, the judge rejected a request for a new trial for Zgoznik, who was found guilty in October 2007 at the end of a six-week trial.

The judge said she would finalize an order for restitution later.
