Mass and dinner honor Matveys on 50th anniversary

CAMPBELL — Joseph J. Matvey Sr. and the former Mary Ann Maruschak, who were united in marriage on July 18, 1959, at St. Michael Byzantine Church in Yonkers, N.Y., celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 18 in Campbell.

The couple, of 857 Almasy Drive, were honored with a Mass and dinner at St. John Church and hall. The celebration was hosted by their children, Joseph Jr. and his wife, Theresa, of Cincinnati, and Kathleen, at home. The Matveys’ other son, Dr. Mark Matvey (Renee), died in 2007. Rounding out the family are three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Matvey, a homemaker, and her husband are members of St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Matvey, who retired in 1998, had been a store manager for Stambaugh Thompson Co., a foreman in the blast furnace department of Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. and a maintenance superintendant for Republic Hose Co.

He is a member of the American Legion and had served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine from August 1954 to August 1962.
