Gerzel family marks marriage as it hits 70 years
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gerzel
POOLER, GA. — Walter R. and Freda M. Gerzel, 102 Regency Circle, celebrated the 70th anniversary of their marriage on Sept. 6 at the Southbridge Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.
Their children, who hosted the dinner, are Bob (Sue) Gerzel of Crystal River, Fla., Sandy (Gerzel) Benson of Savannah, and Janyce (Gerzel) Gillen of Youngstown.
The Gerzels have nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
They are members of Christ United Presbyterian Church in Youngstown.
Mrs. Gerzel had owned a flower business before she retired in 1974.
Mr. Gerzel was assistant postmaster in Youngstown before retiring in 1974. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Gerzel and the former Freda Leese were married Sept. 9, 1939, at South United Presbyterian Church, Youngstown.
The couple were born in Youngstown and after retirement lived in Cape Coral, Fla., and Leesburg, Fla., before moving to Pooler.
