Family celebrates with Malyses for 50th milestone

BOARDMAN — John E. Malys and Joanne Gioglio Malys, of 4377 Devonshire Drive, renewed their marriage vows on June 14 at the Diocese of Youngstown Wedding Anniversary Celebration, which took place at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown with Bishop George V. Murry officiating.

The couple were united in marriage on June 13, 1959, at St. Charles Church and are celebrating 50 years of marriage.

The Malyses’ children follow: Lori and Kurt Sineri, of Fullerton, Calif.; Barbara and Mike Baker, of Hubbard; Terrie and Rusty Beasley, of Alvin, Texas; and Mary Celeste Malys, of Middleburg Heights. Grandchildren are Lauren, Hollie and Melissa Baker of Hubbard, and James Beasley III, of Alvin.

The couple, who are both graduates of Youngstown State University, belong to the Polish Arts Club and St. Stanislaus Church.

Mr. Malys was a middle school teacher at Neal School in the Vienna school system. He retired in 1988 after 31 years of service. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force after serving four years during the Korean War.

He is the commander of American Legion 565, quartermaster for VFW 1423, chaplain for both the ITAM Post 3 Veterans and Polish Legion Veterans, VAVS director and chaplain for the Department of Ohio ITAM Veterans and member of the Korean War Veterans.

Mr. Malys is a 12-year volunteer at the Youngstown VA outpatient clinic and was recently honored for 3,800 hours of service there. He volunteers as an usher with the Youngstown Symphony at Powers Auditorium and Stambaugh Auditorium.

Mrs. Malys was a partner in KBK Management Associates for 20 years, retiring from there in 2001. Before that, she had been a business and COE teacher at Hubbard, North, East and Campbell Memorial high schools.

She works as a direct sales consultant for Cookie Lee Jewelry and volunteers at the PLYMC Bookstore at the Poland Library.

Mrs. Malys serves as president of ITAM Post 3 Auxiliary and was the national president for ITAM Auxiliary in 1993. She is librarian for That Quilt Group I Belong To and is a member of Sons of Italy Lodge 858, Pinnacle Partners Investment Club and several card clubs.

In addition to the couple’s vow renewal in July, they gathered with family members for a week in August at their summer home at Geneva-on-the-Lake. They had a double celebration with a family dinner at O’Charley’s on Aug. 8 and a 100th birthday party for Mrs. Malys’ mother, Cora Gioglio, on Aug. 9 at Avion on the Water in Canfield.
